The Church at the Heart of the City

Brunswick Methodist Church

Welcome to Brunswick Methodist Church which is situated in the heart of the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

A welcoming community committed to following Jesus. We are open 7 days a week.

Our purpose – to proclaim the love of God in the city through worship, serving, caring and learning together.

Coronavirus Update 24th June 2020

You will, of course, have heard the recent Government guidance on easing the ‘lockdown’ measures which have included allowing church’s to re-open for public worship from 4th July, subject to social distancing measures and limits on numbers being able to attend.
It is important to say that this change in guidance is permissive, not prescriptive, and so the Methodist Church connexionally will still be giving its own guidance after Conference ends on 2nd July. Also, our Chair of District, Stephen Lindridge, in consultation with the Superintendent Ministers, will be sending a letter out to all churches in early July.
In terms of hiring our meeting rooms to external user groups we are still awaiting clarification as to when this will be allowed and any limits on the numbers of people allowed to meet. We also need to adjust our room capacities to allow for social distancing to take place. This will mean that some groups may find the room they usually use will now not accommodate their numbers and will therefore need to think about how they will manage this going forward, perhaps having a rota for different people to attend on different weeks for example. We will do our best to accommodate as many of our regular customers as possible but it will not be possible to provide larger rooms for everyone.
At the moment we do not anticipate opening the building for any purpose until August. This may be subject to change depending on the outcome of the Methodist Church Conference guidelines.
We will be using time over the next few weeks to ensure that we have a robust risk assessment in place for Covid-19, for ensuring our building is signed appropriately to remind people of social distancing guidelines, for cleaning the building and training of staff.
Please bear with us while we begin to re-open our church in a safe and controlled way.
